עוּד
(1) i.q. Arab. عَادَ Med. Waw, to plow dorsum, to render (the verbs אוּד No. 1, and תוּד see Piel, are nearly continued); then to repeat, to practice over over again (compare שׁוּב); whence inf. absol. עוֹד adv. again, all the same (which meet).
(2) to say again and over again, to witness, to exhort, in Kal in one case, Lamentations 2:xiiiכתיב, meet Hiphil.
Piel עִוֵּד to surround, Psalms 119:61. (Eth. ዐዊድ፡ to go round, አዖ፡ to make become round, i.e. to surround.)
Hiphil הִעֵיד.
(1) causat. to take equally a witness, to call any one to witness, Isaiah eight:2; Jeremiah 32:10, 25 Jeremiah 32:25, 44 Jeremiah 32:44 hence to call equally witness, to invoke, followed by בְּ against any 1, Deuteronomy 4:26, thirty:19 31:28.
(2) i.q. Kal; hence to testify, to bear witness, absol. Amos 3:xiii; Malachi 2:xiv, followed past an acc. against any 1, 1 Kings 21:10, 13 ane Kings 21:xiii, and in a good sense for any ane, i.eastward, to praise him, Task 29:eleven (compare μαρτυρέω, Luke 4:22). Hence
(a) to obtest, i.due east. to affirm solemnly, to affirm, calling God to witness, followed by בְּ of pers. Genesis 43:3, הָעֵד הֵעִד בָּנוּ הָאִישׁ לֵּאמֹר "the human did solemnly affirm unto us;" Deuteronomy viii:nineteen, 32:46 1 Kings 2:42; Zechariah 3:half dozen.
