Action Anime With Good Drawing

It isn't often that anime is complimented for being original enough. Many series are simply a rehash of each other, including the main characters' appearance. For example, if the anime is a generic harem, then the MC must have brown/black hair and eyes, with little to no personality.

Even so, fans are surprised every once with art styles they haven't seen before. Now, these styles might be pretty, and they might be ugly, but it doesn't take away from the fact that they're 100% unique. Here's having a look at 10 such art styles in certain anime:

10 Shiki

Shiki's art was THE most heavily criticized aspect of the series, with its slow first half coming in a distant second. It is not hard to see why fans hated how the characters looked – a black hole for eyes and hair that looked like most of them recharged their hair in the morning with electric currents.

The words "hideous" and "ugly" were dropped pretty often, and the art was one of the biggest reasons many anime fans never gave the series a go.

9 Grimgar Of Fantasy And Ash

A-1 Pictures has earned itself a reputation for creating some of the most spectacular anime out there, including Sword Art Online. With Ashes Of Grimgar, fans can clearly see them experimenting with a different art style.

Simply put, the entire anime looks as if it has been hand-painted with watercolors. Needless to say, the ethereal backgrounds and character designs stand out a lot more than they would with regular anime art styles.

8 Flowers Of Evil

Right from the get-go, the series got a lot of hate from manga fans for its "ugly" art. While the manga's art was nothing short of stunning, the anime seemed to have "uglified" its own characters.

Fans pointed out that this choice of art made them feel distant toward the characters, unable to bond with them. However, fans of the anime argued that characters who did not look like typical anime protagonists lent a certain air of realism to the show.

7 Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun

With its warm color palette and thick, crisp outlines, Toilet Bound Hanako-kun's art instantly hit with fans. Many even compared its art to that of Attack on Titan's, seeing how both of them used an overwhelming amount of browns for their characters and backgrounds.

Needless to say, credit for the comic-book style of animation goes completely to the studio for staying true to the manga's original art style.

6 Afro Samurai

The show has a very distinct art style. The best way to describe it is to call it an amalgamation of Japanese and American cartoon art styles.

The black characters are drawn in a decidedly Western manner, while the rest of the characters, backgrounds, and sceneries have an obvious Japanese influence.

5 xxxHOLiC

Now, anime isn't exactly known to be very realistic or adhere to Physics' rulesーand although the characters ofxxHOLictend to have legs and torsos on the long side of things, that doesn't take away from the mangaka CLAMP's unique art style.

Although back when it aired, they tended to make character designs with overly long limbs as such inCode Geass, the mystical style is a great takeaway from the anime's direction.

4 Gatchaman Crowds

Bright colors and geometric shapes – that's the best way to describe Gatchaman Crowds' art. The animation is clean, crisp, and smooth, with CGI blending almost seamlessly when the show's lead characters transform into their superhero selves.

In fact, the art actually happens to be the USP of this superhero show, so much so that many people watched the entire series simply for its stunning animation.

3 Promare

This is yet another show with a gorgeously colorful palette, which can be leaning on the pastel side. Like Gatchaman Crowds, there's a heavy emphasis on the geometric shapes of characters and objects in the show, especially the machinery and vehicles.

The CGI integration blends in seamlessly, so much so that the average fan can't even tell that CGI has been used!

2 Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

The art is an ode to the art style of 90s anime, most notable being its shading lines, which are quite literally black lines. The art is colorful and heavily stylized.

The characters in the show, especially the men, are muscular to the point of being hilarious and has been called one of the best artistically pleasing anime for fans to watch. The color-schemes are constantly shifting, often to match the beautifully drawn abstract backgrounds from the series. Even the ridiculously impossible poses the characters strike have become a meme amongst Japan and US audiences, as well as the titular catchphrasesーand the unique style they are drawn in has a part to play in it, as well.

1 Tatami Galaxy

This anime's art is clean, simple, and definitely not very symmetric. Despite anime not having the most realistically drawn characters, Tatami Galaxy's characters are drawn in an even more exaggerated cartoonish manner, akin to a cartoonish style but edging on the cusp of traditional anime.

One-tone colors are often used to present them, with their movements seeming, well, not very flexible. Many people are annoyed by its art, but many others are drawn in by its uniqueness.
